Let me tell your story

I take a candid, journalistic approach to wedding photography, focusing on capturing real moments as your wedding unfolds. The number one thing that I strive for in my work is providing you with genuine photos that tell the story of your day.

I specialize in intimate backyard weddings, and those taking place at rural and outdoor venues.

I also love to photograph urban weddings in Ottawa’s downtown core, and of course in my own Hintonburg neighbourhood. My favourite weddings are those that really tell the story of who you are, as a couple.

Your wedding day is the summation of an amazing story, and it should be told as one.

So many real moments, both big and small, happen throughout your wedding day. I take a fly-on-the-wall approach to capture authentic photos that are modern, but that retain the timeless wedding day feeling as well.

My Style

My goal is for you to remember the moment, not the photo.

My style of wedding photography focuses primarily on candid moments.  These candid moments reflect real emotions and real events that happened uniquely on your wedding day.  A bouquet of flowers can be photographed anytime by anyone, but the look that a father has on his face when he sees his little girl in her wedding dress for the first time?  That’s a fleeting moment that can only be captured once.  Those are the photos that I live for.

My style of portraiture focuses on the bond and relationship between you and your partner.  A beautiful environment is always wonderful for portraits, but when you focus on the people in the photos and their love, fabulous portraits can be taken anywhere.  I don’t want you to look back at your portraits and remember feeling posed, I want you to look back at your portraits and remember feeling loved.

The Takeaway

Couples who hire me are looking to remember the love, excitement and emotion from their wedding day.  They’re looking for a gallery of images that doesn’t just focus on them, but focuses on their family, friends and guests as well.

Along with candid photos, your final gallery will always include photos capturing all the details of your wedding day, family portraits and portraits of you as a couple as well.  I want you to have a gallery of images that you can look back on and remember every little detail about this very big day.  I want your images to focuses on the aspects of your day that were uniquely you.

What type of weddings do you love most?

Each and every wedding day is an unique and beautiful story.  I love weddings where couples plan their day to reflect who they are and what they value in both their relationship and life.  Modern weddings have shifted away from many of the classic wedding day traditions, allowing couples to plan their big day however they want.

Many of the weddings that I shoot take place, at least in part, at an outdoor venue.  I adore nature and the beauty of the outdoors – I would never hesitate to get dirty for the sake of a photo!

I also photograph a lot of weddings that take place at urban venues such as Zibi, Orange Gallery, Mill Street and other restaurant venues in downtown Ottawa.

I love couples who are ready for an adventure.  I love couples who want to have fun, and I love couples who don’t take themselves too seriously.  I love couples for whom beautiful photographs from their wedding day are a top priority, because it’s my top priority too.

What makes you different from other Ottawa wedding photographers?

If you look through my featured weddings, you will see how they reflect my style of focusing on candid moments.  Along with photos of the newlyweds, you’ll see a heavy focus on photos of the guests having fun, which is what a wedding day is all about!

I love shadows, contrast and deep, rich tones, without getting too caught up in short-lived/trendy styles of photo editing.

For the majority of your wedding day I focus on candid photos.  I don’t ask your bridesmaids to pose as they’re doing up your dress, I don’t ask you do pretend to do anything, because there’s simply no need to.  A wedding day is a gold mine of real, beautiful moments that don’t need to be staged, and capturing those for you is always my top priority.
